Relies on contributions of and collaborations with all disciplines; informed by the social sciences and humanities. More than the mere absence of disease or infirmity, broadly determined, requires more than access to medicine or health care. Because different kinds of research are suited to different kinds of questions. There are three models of health to get started with: Reductionist: considers the body as a machine with parts. Disease: a deviation from the norm, especially a normal range of measurable biological variables.
