Oppression is dehumanizing, cruel, unjust, exploitive treatment or exercise of authority or power. Empowerment people gain greater control over decisions and actions affecting their health. Critical consciousness ability to perceive social, political and economic oppression (action against the oppressive elements) Policy: plans and procedures developed and implemented by government, agencies, organizations, associations to achieve goals. Public policy: course of action/inaction, chosen by public authorities to address a given problem/interrelated set of problems. Health policy: subset of public policy, focuses on addressing health issues. Health is not only responsibility of health sector (more health behaviour) Health is a resource for everyday life (not objective of living) Individuals have to be able to identify and realize aspirations, satisfy needs, change or cope with environment. Peace, shelter, education, food, income, stable economy. Resource for social, economic and personal development. People can"t achieve fullest health potential unless they take control for men and women) Five hp action areas: build healthy public policy.
