The second party system and the rise of mass politics. Parties and the birth of mass politics: toward a two-party system: democrats and whigs, the birth of the modern campaign. Keywords: panic of 1819; missouri compromise (1819); the monster bank ; democratic. Party; corrupt bargain (1825); nullification crisis; low cabin campaign (1840) The rise of democracy for white men only. You could see the design: the rise of popular print. By 1820, all of the poorest white americans could read and write but the slaves couldn"t (cause knowledge is power = uprising) The rise of people being able to read was known as the rise of popular print. This changes in between 1870-1880 because at around that time, women started reading: democratic forms of religion. The quakers didn"t need an educated clergy, they needed a clergy who had a conversion experience from god: the decline of property requirements for voting.
