The bechdel test for films - has to have more than one female character, they must talk to one another, and they must talk about something other than the male character. Many, many films have failed this test - women only have 22% leading roles in films. Fun home itself barely passes this test - it is centered on alison"s father. But it is about her father being a closeted homosexual. Her father has trouble connecting with alison because they cannot bond over femininity (that the father wants) or masculinity (what alison wants)
