Through culture individuals enter into relation with the large r social order in a particular way and from a particular position (322) value systems help to orient is in our everyday lives. He doe not prefer the widespread statistical meaning, what appeals to the most people. He prefers the meaning of popular as serving the interests of the people. Popular culture is better recognized by what it does that by what it is. It is more a culture of process than of products (323: the elite often use popular in an anxious way synonymous with lo w vulgar cheap etc. In this view the people were seen as cultureless. The greatest danger lay in the gullibility of the people. Popular culture: people were going to lose their culture and what was going to replace it was an industrial culture instead, post-colonial writers, things falling apart. Blows up due to what people are into.
