EESB03H3 Lecture Notes - Lecture 1: Ice Storm, Order Statistic, Particulates
Document Summary
Weather- the state of the atmosphere at a given time and place, with respect to variable such as moisture, wind, velocity, and barometric pressure. Climate-the weather in some location averaged over some long period of time. Also includes higher order statistics such as sd and the record of extremes. Typically 30 yrs of data are used. Weather- is the temporary condition of the atmosphere and any particular time and place(short-term) Climate- the avg. weather- long term term averages of weather events(typically 30 years). It includes the compilation of weather statistics(e. g. variability) as well as recording of extremes. Meteorology- the science dealing with phenomena of the atmosphere; especially weather processes and weather forecasting. Climatology- the science of climates, their phenomena and causes(physical mechanisms) Climate change- a net change in climate characteristics such as the mean and or standard deviation and/or extremes. Climate variability-the variation about the mean, typically expressed as sd or extreme. Source- long/short term oscillation such as enso and nao.
