EESA10H3 Lecture Notes - Lecture 7: Zoonosis, Human Papillomavirus Infection, Housefly
Document Summary
Human health and environment lecture 7 biological. Biological hazards are host centric- we are hosts to hazards those hosts called (pathogens) pathogens can cause infectious disease. Pathogens live in our body and cause illnesses. Illnesses can be transmitted from person to person, animal to animal, and person to animal. Pathogen- vary in size, vary in those that do have a cell and don"t have a cell. Human body is a habitat and host to many organisms . Associations that harm or bother us are infectious diseases; agents are pathogens. Zoonosis infectious disease transmissible to humans from other animals. Bacteria- unicellular, most not parasitic, aerobic vs anaerobic or tolerate either, some form spores. Viruses- strand of dna or rna; parasitic. Type of pathogens: protozoan big, bacterium medium size, viruses are very small. Immune system: distinguishes self from foreign - active immunity-on first exposure to antigen body produces antibodies. Antigen preparation active immunity (weak microorganism causing illness, not to make you sick)
