People who controls the mediterranean controls the trade. They did have a written language called linear a that hasn"t been deciphered yet. Palace at knossos suggests that they were wealthy. Not just one palace but a bunch of fancy structures built around a central course. between the palace and outside. Arts on the walls (frescos) represent more everyday scenes. Minoan snake goddess is always represented as large woman with snakes in her hand, bare breast. Minoans must have been very respectful to woman. Palace is walled off from the outside. Around 17th bce they started building huge tombs called tholos. Pottery and metals from all over the mediterranean active. Hittites documents where hittites king list all of his competitors. Great evidence of great wealth; lots of gold. Society at war tombs. trading culture. and mycenaens are on there. 600 tablets that were preserved in pylos. Most of them turned out to be tax documents and bureaucratic.
