Document Summary

Lecture 12: blood gas transport: partial pressures of gases throughout the circulatory system, blood flow thru pulmonary artery lungs. Blood reaches lungs interacts with alveolar air: alveolar air =/= atmospheric air, alveolar air: lower po2(100 mmhg) and a much greater pco2(40 mmhg) than atmospheric air. Perfusion limited: limited factor in the oxygenation of tissues (and removing co2) rate of blood flow to our lungs and tissues. So, the rate of blood flow = limiting factor: some animals are diffusion limited limiting factor in oxygenation of tissues = diffusion rate of oxygen from the lung gas into the blood flowing thru lungs. Fe molecule = site where o2 binds. Each hb molecule binds upto 4 o2 molecules: linking o2 and co2 transport in the blood, carbonic anhydrous (ca) catalyzes the reversible hydration/dehydration reaction where co2 + h2o. Enzyme is found in rbc, kidney tissues, parietal cell linings (in stomach)
