BIOC32H3 Lecture Notes - Lecture 4: Cerebral Cortex, Referred Pain, Blood Plasma
Document Summary
We will end today"s stuff about the organization of the nervous system. As we talked about before, the sensory part of the cns can be broken down to somatic sensory division and visceral sensory division. Visceral sensory division is relaying information to the cns from organs, while somatic sensory division is relayed information to the cns from the body surface, muscles, eyes, tongue, etc. The other major factor that separates the two is typically to the cerebral cortex to perceive that sensory information (we are aware when people touch us). For visceral, we can"t relay to the cerebral cortex, so we are not consciously aware of the internal organs. The way we perceive the world depends on 2 things: the kind of sensations we generate, depending on the sensory receptors in the body. We can"t sense magnetic fields, uv light, electrical fields, etc. ; but, other organisms, such as migratory birds can respond to them.
