Document Summary

Terrestrial biomes of earth: different vegetation types determine terrestrial biomes. It"s not just the temp and precipitation, but the type of vegetation: precipitation and temperature determine the vegetation on earth, and the vegetation determines the biome. Biome is a reflection of their physical environment. Plant growth form: deciduous trees are seasonal trees that lose leaves in winter. Could be annual or perennial: forbs are broad leaved that can have flowers. Dominate seasonally cool or cold and wet: sclerophyllous shrubs dominate in mediterranean dry environment. Hard-leaved shrubs: cacti and shrubs have spines and have succulent stems to take in water. Dry desert: these are different plant growth forms that are for different biomes. Similar environments have similar plants: they evolve in similar ways. Convergent (and parallel) evolution: convergent evolution is the independent evolution of similar features in species of different lineages.
