Document Summary

Introduction if you don"t like it where you are, you have 2 options: Each species has a range of environmental tolerances that determines its potential geographic distribution the physical environment influences an organism"s ecological success (survival and reproduction) in two ways: Extreme conditions can exceed tolerance limits and impact survival. Availability of energy and resources- impacts growth and reproduction. These mechanism are not mutually exclusive; e. g. energy supply can influence an organism"s ability to tolerate extremes. Adjusting to stress through behaviour or physiology it is short-term, reversible process adaptation. Over time, natural selection can result in adaptation of a population to environmental stress. Ecotypes are populations with adaptations to unique environments. Climate envelope: range of conditions over which a species occurs (useful tool for predicting the response of a species to climate change). Temperature ranges for life on earth survival and functioning of organisms is strongly tied to internal temperature.
