Document Summary

Protein synthesis machinery: all three types of rna (mrna, trna and rrna) are required for translation. Translation peptide bond: peptide bond between amino group of incoming aa and carboxy-terminal on the growing chain (releases water). Translation initiation: aug initiation/start codon allows the ribosome to correctly read the message, requires other proteins called initiator factors in bacteria called ifs and in eukaryotes called eifs. Initiation factors are attached to the 30s subunit: If1: helps with 30s attachment with mrna and may prevent aa-trna to enter the incorrect site on ribosome. If2: gtp-binding protein that is required for attachment of first aa-trna. If3: prevents premature attachment of large subunit (50s) to 30s and may help in entry of correct initiator aa-trna (fmet) : aug = methionine but in bacteria the initial methionine is is n- formylmethionine. / n- formylmethionine may be enzymatically removed after translation)
