Document Summary

Earliest evidence of eukaryotic cells 2. 2 billion years ago. Besides size, there is a lot of structure inside a eukaryotic cell. There are all sorts of internal structures inside eukaryotic cells and have membranes large so they need support individual organelles to do certain jobs. Allow cells to have compartments and segregate. Know basic structure and function of each organelle. Plants have cell wall made of cellulose. Animal cells don"t have a cell wall to the outside instead they have. Typical diameter of animal cell is 10 100 micometers. Prokaryotic cells do not have endoplasmic reticulum; it is an a matrix of protein called a cytoskeleton. Eukaryotes are larger that prokaryotes (>= 10 micrometers) internal membrane bound structure. Cells are much much smaller for prokaryotes that eukaryotes. Very old prokaryotic cells never got big because they are limited by the amount of surface area to support the volume as it gets bigger and bigger.
