Document Summary

Endocytosis is a process by which cells internalized extracellular matrix (ecm) protein, cell surface receptors and protein bound to the plasma membrane (pm). Cell secrets the proteins that would be in the pm. Bulk phase (pinocytosis) everything enters the cell. Receptor (mediated) selected things enter the cell. It doesn"t associate with specific protein that transport the fluid in the cell. All materials present in the fluid outside the cell is taken up into the cell in a non-specific manner. Provides a selective way to internalize extra cellular molecules by choosing to bring in receptors that bind those molecules. Rme can take up hormones, growth factors or other signaling molecules by their binding to cell surface receptors that are then brought in by rme. Hormones that would be used by the organelles in the cell and growth factors that is needed by the organelles would enter in this way because there are receptors that signals to them.
