Document Summary

Difference between plants and animals based on growth(discussion during class: plants grown with nourishment and animals have a set limit, indeterminate growth vs. determinant growth. Undifferentiated cells : meristems: indeterminate plant growth(cartoon) Start off with small plant embryo and as cells divide they give range to a whole bunch differentiated cells. But maintain the continuous group of undifferentiated cells. The plant body keeps on growing the differentiated cells give rise to the same type differentiated cells ( blue-blue, red-red) Now undifferentiated cells will give rise to different cells (yellow-orange) but maintain totipotent or meristematic cells. The meristematic cells help maintain the long age and growth of plants: limitation to tree height and age. Ex: tree grows faster when younger but as it ages slows down. As the plant grows higher, water become harder to pump all the way up. Insects that feed on meristematic cells: determinate animal growth ( to compare)
