Document Summary
Lec 29~population ecology 2 life history traits and population models. All individuals have a limited energy budget and time. An individual"s energy budget is determined by its resources, which determine its health and longevity: the more resources you have the healthier you"ll be and can survive longer as you can prey and fight of predators. The energy budget can be determined from the time an organism is conceived! It is usually limited by: food , water, appropriate space (nesting, foraging, hiding, etc. , time. An organism"s energy budget is like a bank account: checking account: energy being used in the present. To build and run biomass to grow and stay till maturity. Growth & maintenance: savings account: energy that is stored in the body for the future! (fat, muscle, larger size, etc. An individual must allocate some of its resources to survival, and growth and/or maintenance at all times. It takes energy and time to acquire resources to make more energy!
