Document Summary
Almost all are photoautotrophs: make their own organic carbon molecules from atmospheric co2 and sunlight. Eukaryotes: dna enclosed in membrane bound nucleus, also includes fungi, animals and protists. Monotropa: heterotrophic living on organic carbon obtained from other plants. Shoot system above ground (photosynthetic leaves and stems) Tissue: groups of cells and intercellular substances that function together in one or more specialized tasks (epidermal, vascular) Organ: body structure that contains two or more types of tissues and have definite form and function (leaves, stems and roots) Features not found in animal cells: primary cell wall. Surrounding plasma membrane and cell contents (cytoplasm and organelles) Rigid but flexible: plasmodesmata: cytoplasmic connections between adjacent cells, chloroplasts: the site of photosynthesis in plants, contain chlorophyll a, secondary cell wall: molecule of green pigment that absorbs photons of light. Allows growth of large vascular plants because it provides support and conduction of water through plant body. Produces flowers which later develop fruits containing seeds.
