Document Summary
Slide 5: bacteriophage are viruses that infect bacteria. One of them infect a bacteria, and make thousands of copies of the virus that burst out of the bacteria. S35 is found in cysteine and methionine: two sulfur containing amino acid. P32 is found in the dna: incorporated in the dna. Slide 6: if it was protein, that means that the phage containing the s35 label would carry it to the progeny phage. If dna was the protein p32 would show up in both phages. So to determine which one is pass on, they added the contaminated phages into a new bottle and see whether p32 or s35 gets pass on. S35 was in the supernatant, p32 was inside the bacteria. Slide 7: there were no s35 in the progeny phages. Slide 8: conclusion is that the dna that carries out the genetic information. Polar: at the 3" end , non-polar at the 5" phosphate group.
