Document Summary
Cells are miniature factories": hundreds of biochemical reaction within the cell help in accomplishing activities of life. Living organism must be able to utilize and store energy. Metabolism is the total of all chemical reactions that occur in an organism or specific sets of reaction (photosynthesis/ respiration) Highly regulates the catalyst by a specific enzyme. The product of a reaction becomes the reactant for the following reaction. Slide 4: metabolism managed the material and energy resources of the cell. Anabolic reactions: build complex molecule from simple molecule. Energy is consumed: synthesis of amino acids, synthesis of proteins, photosynthesis. Catabolic reaction : degradative reaction: breaking down complex to simpler molecule: energy is release. Slide 5: kinetic energy is energy in motion. Potential energy is the energy of structure and position: chemical bond, concentration gradient. Slide 6: thermodynamics: the study if energy and its transformation. 1st : energy cannot be created nor destroy.
