Anything that is not : prokaryote, fungi, animal or plant. Can live as heterotrophs, some combine hetero and autotrophy. Are motile or have motile stages in their life history. Live in either water sources or very moist location. Algae and seaweed very important food source for aquatic organisms. Each protists uses cell-cell signaling to mediate cooperation. Some can also be multi cellular (giant kelp)
