Document Summary

A causal relationship between structure and functions exists in many molecules. The structure of dna allows it to store and transmit genetic information. Built from nucleotides phosphate groups and deoxyribose sugars. The four bases: purines, adenine, guanine, pyrimidines, thymine, cytosine. For the numbering primes for the sugar, no primes for the nucleotide. The sugar is deoxyribose because it is missing an oxygen on the 2" carbon: the sugar-phosphate backbones wind around the outside of the molecule and the bases point inward, two contours the major and the minor groove. Strands of bacteria virulent strain of strep and pneumonia. There was a strain that would not kill the organism. If you put dead debris of the virulent strain in mouse the mouse lived. Mixing dead virulent debris with non-virulent living bacteria, the mouse died. Non-virulent strain picked up the dna of the killed debris and transformed into the virulent strain.
