Document Summary

Lecture 01: the molecules of life and biological macromolecules. How do we differentiate living from non living. Evolve we are depended on the law of thermodynamics: the first law of thermodynamics is that energy can be neither created or destroyed. The total energy is constant: degree of disorder in the universe increases. It is prevented by the release of heat. Nerve cell is large (sizes of the cell vary with the functionality of the cell) Microorganism will be highly able to survive. The atom is the fundamental unit of matter. Organic molecules include proteins, nucleic acids, carbohydrates and lipids. Carbon is the backbone of organic molecules. An element is composed of an atom (negatively charged electrons move around the nucleus. There are four types of chemical bonds (polar, non-polar, hydrogen and ionic) Can interact with positive or negative parts of the molecule. Ionic bond (sodium chloride ions are attracted to each other, interact with water then with themselves.
