ANTC67H3 Lecture Notes - Recall Bias
Document Summary
Please use 25 minutes to discuss the following in your small groups. You will be asked to share your discussion with the class. Research topic: risk factors for developing alzheimer"s disease: design a research study for the given topic and specified research design. Describe the general methodologies (selection criteria and group allocation, if applicable). Selection of cases: alzheimer"s and non-alzheimers (below 65 and 65+) Cases from hospitals, clinics, nursing homes and senior homes. Controls from nonhospitalized persons living in the community (people without alzheimers outside the hospital) Surveys (interview) that look at risk factors (such as family history) for cases and controls and compare the difference in results. For the surveys, split into exposed and non-exposed (4 groups at the end: discuss the advantages and disadvantages to your research design. Disadvantage: diagnosis can only be confirmed after autopsy, survey biases (recall bias), time consuming, cant assume causality and cannot estimate prevalence from a case control study.
