Document Summary
Travels from africa all the way to europe and far eastern asia. First species of hominin to travel outside africa. Canadian involved in the discovery of homo erectus fossils at zhoukoudian. Died from an infection in his jaw associated with a dental abscess. 5"3 at 8-12 years old, would have grown to 6". Lack of teeth indicates altruistic behavior, lived for years without teeth. Prognathic upper jaw (relative to other homo erectus) Very very odd, being quite primate looking and different. Not very much more advanced than homo habilis. No indication that it was ever hafted on a shaft. Was used for the better part of 1 million years. Possible reasons for the movius line(where evidence of acheulian handaxe stops) Eastern homo erectus left africa before the invention of the acheulian handaxe. Non stone tools (ie bamboo) took the place of the handaxe. Raw materials suitable for making handaxes weren"t available.
