Multiculturalism celebrates at a surface level, doesn"t address conflicts or discriminatory practices. Idea everyone is on leveled playing field, but this is simply not true. Relies on reading of difference and social difference in abstract superficial way. If racism happens under multiculturalism, must be a problem with that individual, rather than a social problem. By obscuring, development of diversity reduces and manages ethnic cultural differences and issues. If racism takes shape, no need to examine social structure under which this behaviour is taking place, focus on individual.
