SOC362H5 Lecture 4: SOC362-Lecture_4
Document Summary
Today many feminists face the same problem (the great stall) we seem to be stuck at. Girls are raised to believe they can be anything they want to be after the second wave of feminism but it"s frustrating to see how few actually make it to the top. The women at the bottom are likely to be a single mom providing for her family all on her own without any help from society. Slaughter is saying what happens to the women at the bottom who can"t get out of the near poverty slump. Men are vain, but they won"t mind women working so long as they get smaller salaries for the same job. Whatever women do they must do twice as well as men to be thought half as good. Three things we look for in explanations of social problems. How four biology-based processes lead to gender discrimination. Three ways social culture leads to gender discrimination.
