They"re young and different and if they commit crime its often because of family. They need a large state intervention and they can be reformed. This notion was very active in the birth of the youth justice system in canada. It is our moral responsibility that we help youth: punishable young offender: this is a big state intervention and crime by young people is not tolerated and needs to give punishment to end it early. They need discipline and leaves reform and rehabilitation interventions as secondary measures. Intrusive punishment discourse: the idea that a specific group of youths need more intrusive punishment. Ethic of punishment: this understanding of out-of-control youth population came about within public mind, what is the connection between the law and the books live within society, a lot of youth justice history books start with colonial history. Indigenous people had different relationships with youth than colonial english and french.
