Women w/ children at home are one of the fastest growing groups in labour force. Women now hold more post-secondary education than men but don"t advance to most senior positions in institutions. Higher job position for man = higher likeability, opposite is true for women. Persisting gender ideologies of male breadwinner/ female housewife. Workplace is traditionally a testing ground of masculinity. Confining women"s work as auxiliary , secondary and offering assistance to men"s work. Deny women a fair wage bc it"s pocket money : assumption that women don"t make the family wage. Will marry a man to take care of them. Precarious employment: lack of job stability (e. g. lower wages, part-time, replaceable, etc) Women over-repped in precarious work bc: second shift, just pocket money anyway. Woc especially over-represented tolerance of precarious employment relies on gendered and racialized ideas! Discrimination: when treat people who are similar in different ways, or treat people who are different in similar ways.
