Mechanical solidarity - when people share similar work, etc. Organic solidarity - individuals held together through interdependence. A society must have some kinds of rewards that it can use as inducements and some way of distributing these rewards differently according to position . Social inequality is an unconscious way that society assures certain positions get filled with the right type of people. Social stratification is highly dysfunctional for many ciety nts ion .
