Organization/legitimation: schools influence how and what we learn. Basics: society as a social system of inter-related parts. How do modern societies remain cohesive: the school"s role: socialization, to establish consensus and shared norms and values. Beyond schools" overt content, the schools rules, procedures structures, and covert norms that can shape students. This has been around for decades and continues to be important.
