Document Summary
Three purpose of research: exploration: know little, dig up, description, explanation: deeper understanding, causal explanation, why is something happening. Probabilistic: things are causally related, likely produce an outcome, one variable likely causes another variable. Correlation: things that go together, 10 families for each family measure the household income and food per year (income-1000 of dollars, food-1000 of dollars. Each family relationship between income and amount of money on food. Sort the families lowest to highest household income. See how those two things go up together. That"s a clear correlation and positive correlation: one goes up the other goes up. When people have more income they spend more on food in general. How much they earn, low income and high amount of debt, high income low debt, negative correlation: one goes up the other go down. The more money you have the less money to borrow.
