Gender as a mechanism of policing and control: not just by the state, but the social world is also structured around the gender binary. Women and man as gender identity terms. 2-sprit people were very valued, but with colonialism created a gender binary. 76% of people have considered suicide as they didn"t fall into the gender binary. 50% trans people have been discriminated against at work. Health: doctors often take them as a joke. Gender identity = internal, individual feeling of gender. 2- spirit, are lgbtq people and were well respected before. Intersex = reproductive system, hormones are not easily identified as male or females.
