Identify and explain the key aspects of doing gender. For society: gender= difference: the social institution of gender sees men and women as different, there is an increase number of women in traditionally male dominated jobs ex: policing, corrections, engineering, medicine, etc (cid:523)new different occupations(cid:524). Wasn(cid:495)t easy- there has been a lot of resistance/concern: work environments are hyper masculine, women have to work harder to prove confidence in work place, genders are ranked and not treated equal. Women make less $: men still have more power and make more money than women. Gendered division of labour: work at home, taking responsibility domestically. Gendered personalities: traits based on gender identity (what is expected) Gendered social control: formal and informal ways to show approval or disapproval for gender, leads to stigma or social isolation. Gender ideology: justifications for gender, dominant ideologies based on men & women having different power.
