In what ways can science and religion be considered belief systems. Religion and science are both belief systems: belief = any proposition thought to be true, belief system = a set of interrelated beliefs. Tend to be believed by more than one person. Types of relationships between belief systems and deviance: belief systems as deviant, belief systems as social typers of deviance. Science gives us a sense of regularity in the world, and provides us a sense of organization of our everyday life. Religion does the same thing and gives us a purpose, tells us right from wrong. Deviant acts that occur within religious groups e. g. , abuse. Entire religious groups that are considered to be deviant deviant religions . Traditional typology: ecclesia e. g. , anglican church in england. Isla, is an acclesia in iran: churches e. g. , islam, christianity. Are not official religions of an entire society, but they are large and powerful religious groups.
