Document Summary
Learning about a text and how it"s organized before reading. Title, abstract, headings, skim intro and conclusion. Makes notes about what you think reading is about. Place text in its historical, biographical, and cultural contexts. Recognize differences between your values, attitudes, and knowledge, and those represented in the text. Write a question for each paragraph or section. Question should focus on the main idea and be written in your own words. Reflecting on challenges to your beliefs and values. Where applicable, make an indication in the margin at each point where you feel a personal attitudes or beliefs. Make a note about what you feel and what in the text created the challenge. Look at the places where you made the indication and note the patterns. Identifying the main ideas and summarizing them in your own words. Distinguish between main ideas and supporting ideas. Do not accept every assertion at face value. Claim asserts a conclusion (idea, opinion, judgment)
