Document Summary

We are socialized into our culture, into our society, through our interactions with others. Little boy was playing with a doll, and dad didn"t react nicely. This interaction with his dad taught him that dolls aren"t for boys, socialized into his culture. The kids (victor) were living with animals, so they were socialized to act like an animal. How does socialization happen: freud"s stages of development. He was the first person to believe that social interaction develops one"s personality: cooley"s looking-glass self (shredded) Our sense of self is just a reflection given back to us from other people: mead"s i and me. I vs me i= what your born with, me= our social self. Our ability to develop a self (me)= is the ability to put ourselves in others place. We use a set of cultural standards to dictate what we do.
