Deviance is when someone breaks a norm, and it reacted the negative way (promoted negative reactions from others) When someone departs from a norm and evokes a negative reaction from others . Crime is the norm being broken as a law. Deviance = break norm in a negative way. Crime and deviance are not characteristics of an individual or crime of actions. The act it self is not deviant, but deviant is the existence of the norms around the act. The social reactions / perception of an act that make a particular behaviour deviant from criminal. Early 1900s, marijuana wasn"t widely used, it was used in different pockets of north. America, seen as a kind of cure kinds of drug. Racists undertones in the marijuana issue, targeting a specific group.
