Racism: belief that a visible characteristic of a group indicates group inferiority and justifies discrimination, racialization, prejudice, discrimination, power. Types of racism: bigotry, open, conscious expression of racial views. Institutional racism: bias inherent in social institutions, friendly racism, subtle and hidden expressions of racism, examples, white privilege, racial preference, housing discrimination. Involves one race or ethnic group subjugating another in the same country: prevents assimilation by segregating the subordinate groups in terms of jobs, housing and social contracts.
