Relationship between the construct of motivation, observation of behaviour and substrates underlying motivation has been explained by a number of theories over the years. A lot of the language is still used, which may be confusing since the theories and their context aren"t used. Usually, the theory relates to the overall construct of the particular time and psychology at the time: motivational theorists" basic assumption: for every behaviour, there is a cause ( but concept of motivated behaviour) Cause of motivated behaviour can result in approach or avoidance, depending on the nature of the cause: motivated behaviour often conceptualized in terms of a goal object that can be approached or avoided. Behaviour occurs in the context of the environment. There are individual differences in behaviour general principles of behaviour vs. why individuals behave.
