PSY397H5 Lecture Notes - Lecture 2: Explicit Memory, Pyramidal Cell, Long-Term Memory
Document Summary
Pyramidal cells in the hippocampus are the most sensitive; The plasticity of the brain comes with a cost; even a small degree of hypoxia will cause these pyramidal cells to die; If one cortical area gets damaged others can take over this function; if visual cortex gets damaged then other areas of your brain will start to. Or if your eyes get damaged then the visual cortex will start receiving signals from other sensory modalities; People who get a sensation of seeing because their brain is processing these auditory signals as visual signals and so from their visual cortex these people really do feel like they are seeing; special glasses; Mice/rats without a good hippocampus are unable to remember the same chamber where they were shocked before; but they are still able to respond to the tone allow; they don"t remember the place/context;
