PSY397H5 Lecture Notes - Lecture 1: Habituation, Amygdala, Classical Conditioning
Document Summary
Learning, particular behaviour an experience causes a change in behaviour. Plasticity - mechanisms that all processing to occur. Different forms of learning and different phases of memory. Can have arbitrary categories, trying to categorize memory based on meaningful biological mechanisms. From empirical evidence, non-associative, single stimulus repeated multiple times: habituation, reflex diminishes, apply strong stimulus dishabituation, even stronger stimulus, sensitization. Model organisms, similar to humans and easier to work with. Training comes from increasing rotation speed, modifying there response to the movement of the rod. Homozygous for mutation did worse than wild type. Mutation caused different structure which affected motor learning. Drop triggered stop watch to know when mice fell. Contiguity temporal association, between conditioned and unconditioned stimulus, close to each other temporally. Contingency causal one precedes the other, conditioned first than. Certain stimuli pairs of cs and us can vary. Conditioned is taste and smell of particular food, unconditioned would be unconditioned stomach ache.
