Document Summary

Lecture 6: language processes in the brain (chapter 3) Diff cortical regions are associated to diff functions (e. g. vision, motor planning) Well, language involves many aspects/ kinds of input and output (vision, hearing, touch, etc. ) pa in the right ear goes to the lh. ma in the left ear goes to the rh lh. Both stimuli at the same time, diff one in each ear. People favor the signal that went into the right ear - right ear advantage. Conclusion: the right ear must be connected to the hemisphere for language processing. Wada test: diagnostic procedure, done on people with severe epilepsy. Helps understand what functions would be disturbed b/c of the surgery on the epileptic person inject barbituae (anesthetic) into carotid artery, on one side then the other. The anesthetic goes only to one hemisphere of the brain. If the hemisphere is specialized for language, the patient should stop their speech abilities for a period of time.
