Document Summary

Forensic psychology is a research endeavor that examines aspects of human behaviour directly related to the legal process. For ex, eyewitness testimony and memory, jury decision making, criminal behaviour, deception detection and risk assessment. Daniel m"naughten wanted to kill the prime minister peel but mistakenly killed peel"s secretary. M"naughten was acquitted after nine medical experts testified to his insanity. The m"naughten rules with some variations found their way into the canadian criminal code. The law exempts criminal responsibility for those who are incapable of making a rational choice. Canadian criminal code defines mental disorder in an indirect and twisty manner. It is referred to as disease of mind and is a legal concept that is up to the judge to decide, can include things like sleepwalking, getting bashed on your head and losing control etc. Appreciating includes the act of knowing but knowing does not necessarily include appreciating. Knowing is awareness, rational perception, a cognitive or intellectual ability.
