This is not likely to change on dsm 5. Drug is a mind or behavioral altering substance. It is a significant issue among college students. The number one most widely abused drug is caffeine, the second one is alcohol. Caffeine is the class of drug called stimulant, people can experience withdrawal symptoms. Withdrawal symptoms are of complete opposite to the symptoms of the effect of the drug. Withdrawal of caffeine may cause irritability, lethargy, headaches. Body compensates for the high caused by the drug by a phenomenon called tolerance (next time instead of 1 cup, the person may need 2 cups). It is not a stimulant, it is a depressant drug. The pre-frontal cortex is being put to sleep. It is responsible for judgment and decision making leads to the person being disinhibited. Any substance that affects our body or mind, these are molecules that affect cns functioning and causes temporary changes to behavior, emotions or thoughts.
