It can be our ally during stress by boosting our energy. However, at the same time, increased levels of cortisol can weaken the immune system and make us more vulnerable to infections and diseases. Cortisol is made in the adrenal glands in the kidneys, and helps to regulate bp, cardiovascular function, as well as the body"s use of proteins, carbs, and fats. Normally, cortisol is secreted into bodily systems 2 hours before we wake up (given that our sleep patterns are normal) and gives us the energy we need to take on the day. During exam time, cortisol is released in greater amounts, and it works together with other hormones to help us manage stress. However, prolonged or continuous stress will lead to problems with the amount of cortisol that is being released. Bottom line of food industries: sell food and make more products than the competitor. With scientific information, they can spin it so it convinces the audience.
