Document Summary
System of ideas and practices that are held in common in a particular society. Can create it in whatever group you are in there are different communities that can create their own culture. Each culture values specific emotions over others. In western societies, people have this idea that they need to fall in love before marriage. In eastern cultures, the concept of romantic love is very different: people are more likely to stress the negative aspects of love. Culture influences how we talk/think/feel about love. Yet, when looking at fmris of people from eastern and western cultures, the same areas of the brain are activated. Cross-cultural comparisons: examples would be fmri, going to another culture and measuring emotions in some way to relate it back to your home culture. Ethnographies: more common in anthropology, social lives of the members in a culture, live with the people for a long time, absorb all aspects of the culture.
