Think about yourself as object of ones attention and thoughts. Self as knower i subjective knower: i is the response of the individual to the attitude of the community. Self as known me object that is known: me is what is learned in interaction with others and (more generally) with the environment, me is the thing being observed, there can be different me . Knowledge: introspection self analysis, perspective thinking taking the perspective of others. People try to have the ideal self through planning and self control. The self-reference effect is a tendency for people to encode information differently depending on the level on which the self is implicated in the information: memory for self-related material is remembered best. Next in line effect its when you are completely self focused: people not remembering what other people said because they were too busy rehearsing their own part.
