Document Summary

Consistency: yields consistent information over time and across observers, ex. Inter-rater reliability consistent information across observers of behavior: see if there is agreement/consensus among raters, can be indicated by calculated kappa (k) measure of agreement. Content validity (face, construct), criterion validity [concurrent (convergent validity, discriminant validity), predictive], internal validity, external validity: measuring with measuring tape is not valid measure of weight so cannot be valid and trusted. Look at content validity tells us whether items are really measuring what we want to measure: face validity look at questions and decide whether they asses what you want to measure this is more subjective. Less expensive: disadvantages, cannot make causal inferences because not manipulating any variables. July 7, 2020: can only describe relationships, cannot control the accuracy (validity) or reliability of the data don"t know whether information is accurate or consistent, self-report methodologies. Little depth in responses no opportunity to probe participants in structured interviews or questionnaires.
