Document Summary
Social incompetence? it"s easy to imagine how brain would function in terms of language, memory, perception, etc. , but there is not much research on social cognition. We dont give much thought to our social behaviour and the brain structures that are important for it e. g. making conversation: you dont think much about whats going on in your brain during that. Just don"t get it --> don"t get social skills and how to behave socially o social incompetence is aparent across different domains: at home, school or later on at work as well. Want friends, but don"t know how to make them. Do and/or say the wrong thing at the wrong time o they are not bale to stop themselves from saying something that is hurtful to their friends, for example. Are rude, abrupt, insulting, intrusive, inappropriate, but they are not doing this on purpose o e. g. in autism: bargaining in on the conversation; invading someone"s personal space.
